The mission of the Dover Public Library is to connect people to a variety of resources and services that inform, educate and entertain.
Our vision is that Delaware libraries are leaders in connecting and inspiring a lifetime of discovery.
A message from the Director:
Welcome to the Dover Public Library. We are pleased you have joined us. Our Library is a library in transition: from a medium sized suburban library to a larger urban library which serves as the anchor facility for Kent County. We are transitioning from an over-crowded, aging facility to a new, sizable and ultra-modern facility which will make use of sustainable elements and offer space for library services, programs and materials.
Not only is our space transitioning but our staff is as well. We are blessed to have a long-term dedicated and effective staff, many of whom are facing retirement age if they have not already retired in the past few years. You may see several of those who have retired often, as most of them continue to support the Library and its staff through volunteer or part-time contract work.
We are equally blessed with staff who are replacing our retirees. We have a new leadership team in place and new line staff as well. This brings energy, creative ideas and new projects. We are risk takers and we like to try new things. If they don’t work, we try something else. Your comments and suggestions are always welcomed and they help us as we strive to provide excellent service for all our many customers.
We do firmly believe that the library is the heart and the hub of its community; and we believe that the people we serve deserve absolutely the best in customer service and library service. That is our goal. We believe the library is a place for learning, enrichment, relaxation and fun. We hope to see you often!
