On behalf of the Mayor, City Council, employees, and
volunteers of the City of Dover, I welcome you to our website! We
are committed to providing our residents, businesses, and visitors
with a great place in which to live, work, and visit as evidenced by
our Vision,
Mission, and Critical Success Factors.
Under our City Council/City Manager form of
government, the City Council is responsible for appointing the City
Manager. I was appointed to the position of City Manager in
November 2001. Prior to that, I worked for ten years as the
City?s Director of Planning and Inspections. My family and I
have lived in Dover for over 15 years. We have enjoyed every
minute of it.
The City Manager's
office is the management leader for all City Manager departments and
provides administrative support to all
departments.
The City Manager's office coordinates City
government activities; receives and responds to citizens? concerns,
inquiries, and requests; monitors capital Investments projects;
provides administrative support to City
Council and Council
committees; and coordinates City legal work through the City
Solicitor. The City Manager?s office is also responsible for
coordinating, preparing, and publishing the City's
Capital Investments Plan, the annual
budget and the biennial revenue
manual.
Dover is located in central Delaware in Kent
County and is the capital of Delaware--approximately 90 miles south
of Philadelphia, PA, and 90 miles east of Washington, D.C.
While our population is just over half of that of Wilmington, DE,
Dover encompasses a larger area than any other city on the
Del-Mar-Va Peninsula.
Dover is home to Dover Air Force Base,
which includes a fleet of 36 C-5 Galaxy transport airplanes and
constitutes the largest aerial military port facility on the east
coast; Dover International
Speedway; Schwartz
Center for the Arts; the
Dover Mall; and numerous specialty stores downtown. Dover is
also home to many historic buildings, museums, and
parks.
Thank your visiting our website. I hope
you will enjoy exploring it and all it has to offer.
Tony DePrima, City Manager
