Outages

We do our best to ensure that you have as few service interruptions as possible, but sometimes weather conditions or car accidents cause the power to go off. If that should happen, here's what to do:

First
Check your fuses and circuit breakers. Make sure that everyone in your family knows where the breaker box is located and how to handle fuses and breakers. If this isn't the source of the problem...

Call our Systems Operations Center at 736-7086

We don't automatically know when there's an outage. We rely on you to let us know.

When you call, you'll reach our Systems Operations Center. Tell us your name, address and phone number and anything that you saw or heard (like a loud explosion, a line down or a fallen tree limb) that might help us locate the problem.

Second
Turn off your electric water heater (usually the top left-hand circuit breaker) and unplug any solid state electrical equipment (microwave, VCR, TV) so that it won't be damaged by a power overload when the electricity comes back on.

Turn on your porch light or other outside light so that when our crews are in the area they can more easily see which houses have power and which don't. It also helps them know when and where the power is back on.

Be Prepared
Have flashlights and a battery-powered radio (with fresh batteries) put away in an easily accessible place. In the event of a major power outage, we will notify local radio stations of the situation, and they will keep you informed. Please call us only once. During a major outage, the switchboard is very, very busy.

After power is restored, we will make calls to make sure everything is back to normal.
