

| Mayor's Mission
In general, the Mayor is the elected representative of the
citizens of Dover and is responsible for the following tasks:
- The Mayor shall be the Executive and Chief Official of the City
- Effectively represent the citizens of Dover
- Corresponds and works with citizens, business, community & elected officials on the city, federal, state and county levels to establish goals for the betterment of the community
- Promotes the economic and social interests of the City and the general welfare of the citizens
- Oversees the Police Department and appoints the Police Chief
- The Mayor should take part in meeting with the following groups ?
1. Chamber of Commerce
2. Central Delaware Economic Development Council
3. Downtown Dover Development Corporation
4. Greater Dover Committee
5. Delaware League of Local Governments
6. United States Conference of Mayors
7. Rotary
8. Kent County Tourism
9. Council on Police Training
10. Livable Delaware Advisory Council
11. Delaware Homeland Security Council
12. Delaware Emergency Management Agency Working Group (oversees distribution of federal funds for Homeland Security matters)
13. Delaware National Guard & Reserve Emergency Assistance Fund
14. Delaware Workforce Investment Board
15. Serve as the Honorary Wing Commander at Dover Air Force Base
16. Serve as President of the Delaware League of Local Governments
17. Serve as a lobbyist at Legislative Hall
- The Mayor by charter shall/can serve on all commissions and committees that the City has in place
- The Mayor shall/can have an annual prayer breakfast each year
- The Mayor shall/can have four open town meetings each year and preside at the annual Council meeting
- The Mayor should have a strong working relationship with the Council, City Manager and staff to assist them in meeting the goals and objectives of the City
