Do you have what it takes to be part of our team? The City of Dover Central Services Department is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Electrician I in the Facilities Division. The essential function of the position within the organization is to perform electrical and electromechanical installation, maintenance, and perform electrical repairs. This position is responsible for installations, inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, replacements and completion of logs or forms. This position will work under the general supervision of the Facilities Manager, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Job Responsibilities
- Installs new wiring; maintains existing wiring, electric generators, emergency lighting systems, fire and burglar alarm systems. Installs new computer communication wiring and inspects, repairs, and maintains all safety and emergency equipment to insure proper operation at all facilities.
- Performs repairs on electrical and electromechanical equipment/systems as required. Reports malfunctions outside the scope of the position to appropriate personnel.
- Leads and/or performs inspections and installation of electrical and electromechanical equipment/systems and components within structures and facilities of responsibility.
- Schedules and performs preventive maintenance on equipment/systems in accordance with departmental policy and regulations.
- Performs administrative functions such as assisting with engineering and bidding of projects, completing logs, records, work orders, and assists with monitoring of materials and equipment.
- Installs conduit and wire moldings for electrical wires; installs and replaces breakers and switches; tests and adjusts electrical contacts on equipment.
- Locates and corrects power failures and short circuits.
Required Qualifications
- Requires high school diploma or GED, and college or vocational school education in electrical training.
- Requires valid Driver’s License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
- A State of Delaware Journeyperson Electrician License OR a Master Electrician license is required. A license from another state which meets Delaware license requirements as determined by the State board of Electrical Examiners may be accepted.
- Six months experience in interpreting blueprints, schematics or technical drawings.
- Requires a minimum of four years of related experience.
- Requires medium to heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force on a frequent basis, and exceptional dexterity and skill in operating machinery and tools.
