Matthew J. Lindell represents the 1 st District. He was sworn into office on May 24, 2017. Lindell lives in the Village of Westover with his wife, Jennifer; his daughter, Ava; and Madison, the family’s 11 year old adopted dog.
Lindell is a lifelong Delawarean graduating from Smyrna High School (1999). He went on to graduate from Wesley College earning a B.A. in History (2003) and a M.A. in Teaching (2005). He was an active part of campus life serving as President of the Student Government Association; and in 2014, he was inducted into the Wesley College Athletic Hall of Fame for his successful cross country career and service as President of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee. Lindell also holds a M.A. in History from Washington College (2015). From 2005-2011, Lindell taught history and social sciences at Dover High School. Since 2011, he teaches AP U.S. History, AP U.S. Government and Politics, and a course on the Holocaust at Cape Henlopen High School. Also, he is the Head Coach of the Boys and Girls Cross Country teams as well as the Boys Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Coach.
In 2012, Lindell was elected to the Capital School District Board of Education where he went on to serve two terms as President (2013-2014 and 2015-2016) and a term as Vice President (2014-2015).
In his spare time, Lindell is an avid runner and kayaker. Lindell enjoys reading books of the historical and political variety, and thanks to his daughter, Ava, he has become an avid reader of all things Paw Patrol and Disney.
