Parks

Dover residents and visitors can enjoy the beauty of the outdoors and the wonder of nature at its many community parks and facilities.  With 28 parks, the City of Dover is dedicated to the leisure interests of its residents.  Within the Parks and Recreation Department, we oversee 25 small to medium sized parks and three larger parks that compliment the City of Dover.

Silver Lake Park   offers its visitors a range of recreational fun and activity covering 182 acres.  The paved walking/jogging path within the park gives visitors a scenic view of the park.  Fisherman find Silver Lake to be quite the place for bass, catfish, carp, perch, and many more local species.  Licensed boaters are often seeing fishing or pulling water skiers across the lake.

Countless children and families enjoy the playground which includes equipment for ages 3 -12.  With benches and pavilions close by, this is a popular park for family outings and get-togethers, 5k Races and just relaxing.  Open for your enjoyment from dawn to dusk all year long.

Schutte Park is the City’s leading park for athletic field space and the home to the John W. Pitts Recreation Center. Complete with 2 meeting rooms and a gym that features 2 basketball courts/3 volleyball courts & an indoor walking track, the Pitts Center offers a variety of fitness classes, sports, and sport leagues.

The Schutte Park athletic field space consists of 10 multipurpose fields, four (4) lighted softball fields, a pavilion, playground equipment, a cross country course, and walking paths.  Many annual softball tournaments find their home right here at Schutte Park softball complex. The back section of this park is the home to Dover Little League.

The newly created Off Leash Dog Park is open!  Bring Fido out to play in our dog park featuring a large and small dog area and a ball throwing area!

The park is open for your enjoyment from dawn to dusk all year long.

Dover Park   offers the only public tennis courts in town! These three tennis courts are complimented by a softball field, multipurpose field, two basketball courts, disc golf course, and much more! Two pavilions for those hot sunny days offer visitors a place for picnicking and family get-togethers. Coming soon, the Dover Park Community Center, Spray Pad and ADA Playground all opening in May of 2024!!

Within these parks, we offer open space areas, walking paths, benches, picnic areas, fishing areas, playground equipment, athletic field space, basketball courts, and tennis courts, providing recreational fun and open space for the families of these neighborhoods to explore and enjoy.  Park hours are from  dawn to dusk  unless otherwise posted or approved Parks & Recreation Department programs are taking place.  Enjoy our parks today!
