Do you have what it takes to be part of our team?  The City of Dover is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Animal Control Officer in the Dover Police Department.  The essential function of this position within the organization is to control animals in the City of Dover.  Capture stray animals, issue summons, lock jocks, and patrol.  This position works independently, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Job Responsibilities

• Respond to citizen complaints regarding nuisance animals
• Capture dangerous, stray, and injured animals; delivers to appropriate facility
• Patrol for stray animals and citizens violating animal ordinances; issues warnings/citations for animal ordinance violations
• Investigates reports of animal bites and acts of cruelty to animals; obtains information from involved parties and quarantines animals engaging in biting behavior
• Unlocks vehicles for citizens who lock their keys in their vehicles
• Picks up and distributes mail for the Department

Required Qualifications

• A High School Diploma or GED
• Valid driver’s license
• Six (6) months of related experience

Preferred Qualifications

• One (1) year certificate from college or vocational school
