In 2003 the City introduced chlorine into our water system. The chlorine reacts with iron deposits in the piping causing discolored water.

Yes. The discoloration is caused by iron particles and does not affect the City's ability to meet all state drinking water standards.

Discolored water may be reported by calling System Operations at 302-736-7086 or via e-mail: waterquality[at sign]dover.de.us.

Open an outside hose bib to clear discolored water. Try to refrain from running hot water inside until it has cleared to prevent the discolored water from getting into your hot water heater.

Fax your request to 302-736-4217 or contact Public Works at 302-736-7025. Be sure to include location, contact name, phone number and fax number. Flow testing is only performed 3 times a year in conjunction with our water distribution system flushing.

Call our System Operations Center at 302-736-7086, 24 hours a day / 7 days a week. City personnel will troubleshoot the problem free of charge. If the City's main is flowing, the homeowner will then have to contact a plumber to correct the problem.

Sewer cleanout caps are the responsibility of the property owner and can be purchased at plumbing supply houses.
