Job Description:

There’s never been a better time to explore a future with the City of Dover.  The City of Dover is currently seeking qualified applicants for the Environmental Scientist.  The essential function of this position is to assist the Stormwater Coordinator in all required permits related to environmental compliance to include but not limited to National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), flood plain and sanitary sewer overflows.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct field studies or inspections and evaluations for compliance with permit and regulatory requirements.
  • Observe, collect, analyze, review and interpret data from standard field studies
  • Compliance inspections various regulatory submissions or literature and make recommendations
  • Perform statistical analysis of data using Esri’s suite of products
  • Conduct technical reviews and make recommendations on permit applications or other regulatory submissions to ensure compliance
  • Prepare permits, technical reports and/or enforcement of case documents
  • Respond to technical/regulatory inquiries from other state, local and federal agencies as well as public and private organizations or individuals
  • Maintain records of field surveys, drawings and prints
  • Prepare routine and special reports
  • Answer questions and provide information to the public and city Staff
  • Investigate complaints and recommend corrective action

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or closely related field.
  • Minimum of six (6) months of related experience
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

A criminal background investigation and pre-employment drug/alcohol screening, along with a driving screening will be required.  Candidates may be given a job-related test during the interview.
