Job Description:

There’s never been a better time to explore a future with the City of Dover.  We are looking for motivated individuals to join our Parks and Recreation Department as a Lead Laborer for the Grounds Division.  The essential function of this position is to lead a group of employees in performing a variety of mowing, landscaping, tree maintenance, flower bed maintenance and facility maintenance at the City’s 240 acres of land.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for working outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
  • Perform such duties as mowing grass, trim and remove vegetation, trim trees, mulch, pull weeds, rake, and blow leaves, perform yard repairs, and plant and maintain flower beds.
  • Inspect motor equipment daily and perform minor maintenance; complete job-related logs and forms and assist in providing information to the public.
  • This position is classified as essential personnel that will be required to assist with weather emergencies such as but not limited to snowstorms.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or a GED with one (1) year of related experience.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or the ability to obtain a CDL permit within three (3) months and a CDL license within six (6) months of employment.
  • A Department of Transportation (DOT) physical associated with CDL is required along with a pre-employment drug and alcohol test. 
  • Pesticide application license with ornamental turf & right-of-way endorsement or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment.

A criminal background investigation will be required. Candidates may be given a job-related test during the interview.
