Biographical Information

Alan Gaddis was born, raised, and educated in New Jersey. After graduating high school, he graduated from Rutgers-the State University in 1967 with a Bachelor’s Degree and a Permanent Teaching Certificate for high school Spanish. He returned to his high school and enjoyed teaching the students there for 33 years, retiring in 2000. In 1981, he earned a Masters Degree in Administration-Supervision and acted as a quasi-administrator for several years. His main teaching goal was to help all of his students realize that they could learn something as difficult as a second language, as well as to successfully meet other challenges. He also encouraged them to accept and respect others’ cultures. He has traveled to Spain including a 3 week stay and 5 Easter breaks as chaperone to his student groups. He and his wife, Janis, moved to Dover in 2008, and have come to appreciate the city’s history, activities, and its people. As part of the Human Relations Commission, he hopes to give back something positive to his adopted city.
