REGULAR MEETING

                                                                                                            January 11th, 1937

            The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Dover was held on the 11th day of January, 1937. The meeting was called to order by Vice-Mayor Frear and on roll call the following members answered present: Messrs. Hinkle, Vane, Downes, Burton, Keith, Millman, and LeFevre.

MINUTES

            Upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Hinkle, the reading of the minutes of the last regular meeting was dispensed with.

CITY MANAGER’S REPORT

            The City Manager’s report for the month of December was read by the Clerk and accepted upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Burton.

MEMBERS FOR HOLDING ELECTION

            Vice-Mayor Frear appointed Messrs. Vane and Keith to assist the City Alderman and City Clerk in holding the municipal election on Monday, January 18th, at the City Hall from 1 to 4 P.M. Upon motion of Messrs. Downes and Keith, the City Clerk was authorized to have the necessary ballots printed for the election.

FINANCIAL REPORT

            The financial report for the month of December was read by the Clerk and accepted and approved upon motion of Messrs. Burton and Hinkle.

ALDERMAN’S REPORT

            The Alderman’s report for the month of December was read by the Clerk and accepted upon motion of Messrs. Hinkle and Burton. A check in the amount of $75 was turned over to the City Manager with the report of 13 arrests.

POLICE REPORT

            The report of the Chief of Police was read by the Clerk and accepted upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Burton. Also, a yearly report of the Chief of Police was read by the Clerk, and upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Hinkle, the City Council gave a vote of thanks to the Chief of Police and his staff for the splendid work done in the year 1936.

ORDINANCE

            Upon motion of Messrs. Vane and Millman, the City Clerk was instructed to have the City Solicitor draw up an ordinance regulating the traffic and parking on Loockerman Street from the west side of State Street to Kirkwood and Slaughter Streets, this ordinance to limit parking on said street between the hours of 2 A.M. and 6 P.M. to 2 hours; also, to make all parking parallel to the curb on both sides of the street.

PETITION

            A petition was presented to the City Council signed by all property owners on State Street between the Green and Water Street requesting a permit be granted for opening a tea house in the property of Benjamin F. Simmons. Upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Downes, the City Manager was authorized to issue a permit for this tea room.

COMMITTEE

            A committee appeared before Council presenting a petition requesting the City Council to pave and curb Lincoln Street west of the railroad. They were instructed by the Council that they did not think it advisable to pave this street at the present time in-as-much as they are contemplating a sewer to be built in the spring. However, they would slag this street and make it fit to travel upon during the winter months.

ANNUAL REPORT OF THE ROBBINS HOSE COMPANY

            upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Hinkle, the annual report of the Robbins Hose Company was accepted as read by the Fire-Chief Baker, and he was instructed that this recommendations would be given due consideration.
