REGULAR MEETING
October 12th, 1936
The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Dover was held on the 12th day of October, 1936. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Woodford and on roll call the following members answered present: Messrs. Frear, Downes, Keith, Vane and LeFevre.
MINUTES
Upon motion of Messrs. Downes and Keith, the reading of the minutes of the last regular meeting was dispensed with.
CITY MANAGER’S REPORT
The City Manager’s report for the month of September was read by the Clerk and accepted upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Vane.
Upon motion of Messrs. Downes and Frear, the City Manager was authorized to install sidewalks in front of the City property from the City Hall to the Loockerman Street fill.
Upon motion of Messrs. Downes and Frear, the City Manager was authorized to move the garage belonging to Melvin Hopkins and trees belonging to Mr. Wm. Denny for the purpose of opening an alley from William Street to Governors Avenue Boulevard between Bradford Street and Governors Avenue.
Upon motion of Messrs. Downes and Frear, the City Manager was authorized to pave Pine Street with a dop dressing of rolled slag with tarvia penetration.
FINANCIAL REPORT
The financial report for the month of September was read by the Clerk and accepted and approved upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Frear.
ALDERMAN’S REPORT
The Alderman’s report for the month of September was read by the Clerk and accepted upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Downes. A check in the amount of $53.00 was turned over to the City Manager with the report of 11 arrests.
POLICE REPORT
The report of the Chief of Police was read by the Clerk and approved upon motion of Messrs. Downes and Vane.
A LETTER
A letter from the City Manager’s Association was read by the Clerk giving the City Manager and City Council an invitation to attend their annual convention in Richmond, Virginia, on October 19th and 20th. Upon motion of Messrs. Downes and Frear, the Council decided to send City Manager Shank to the convention and defray all expenses.
REPORT OF THE BOARD OF HEALTH
The semi-annual report of the Secretary of the Board of Health was read by the Clerk and upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Frear the same was accepted. The Clerk was instructed to draw an order for $50.00, representing six months’ salary for the Secretary of the Boar of Health, Herman C. Taylor.
COMMITTEES
Mr. William Haas appeared before Council asking that the City extend their electric lines from Little Creek to his chicken farm, approximately three miles. He was advised that the City Manager would make a survey and report at the next meeting of Council the approximate cost and exact distance of this extension.
Mr. J. Elwood Teat appeared before Council asking that the City extend the water main and electric line east on Sacarackin Avenue approximately 300 feet. Upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Downes, the City Manager was authorized to extend the water main and electric line east to Lot #22 on Sacarackin Avenue.
