REGULAR MEETING
June 8, 1936
The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Dover was held on the 8th day of June, 1936. The meeting was called to order by Mayor J. Wallace Woodford and on roll call the following members answered present: Messrs. LeFevre, Downes, Keith, Burton, Frear, Vane and Hinkle.
MINUTES
Upon motion of Messrs. Downes and Hinkle, the reading of the minutes of HTE last regular meeting was dispensed with.
CITY MANAGER’S REPORT
The City Manager’s report for the month of May was read by the Clerk and accepted upon motion of Messrs. Burton and Keith.
Upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Downes, the City Manager was instructed to make a survey of the City and note the number of customers using sprinklers for their lawns and premises, with the idea of compelling them to install water meters. Also, the City Manager or his representative were authorized to enter the premises and investigate.
Upon motion of Messrs. Burton and Downes, the City Manager was authorized to install another deep-well pump at the water works.
Upon motion of Messrs. Downes and Hinkle, the City Manager was authorized to give Mrs. A. M. Harrington a permit to move her house from Loockerman Street down New Street if same does not interfere with the telephone cable across North Street, with the understanding that Mrs. Harrington bear all expenses and secure all necessary permits which are out of the City’s jurisdiction.
Upon motion of Messrs. Downes and Keith, the City Manager was authorized to secure bids on the extension of the interceptor sewer from Division Street to the present sewer and to award the contract to the low bidder.
Upon motion of Messrs. LeFevre and Downes, the City Manager was authorized to lay a sewer from Fulton Street to Railroad Avenue, which will take care of the new hosiery mill.
Upon motion of Messrs. Frear and Hinkle, the City Manager was instructed to send notices to the property owners on the south side of Pine Street from the property of Millard Moore to the property of Preston Eisenbrey to lay sidewalks.
ALDERMAN’S REPORT
The Alderman’s report for the month of May was read by the Clerk and accepted upon motion of Messrs. Hinkle and Keith. A check amounting to $128 was turned over to the City Manager with the report of 16 arrests.
POLICE REPORT
The report of the Chief of Police was read by the Clerk and approved upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Burton.
FINANCIAL REPORT
The financial report for the month of May was read by the Clerk and accepted and approved upon motion of Messrs. Hinkle and Keith.
COMMITTEE
Mr. C. H. Davis appeared before Council asking that the owner of the bungalow on duPont Avenue, which was moved there by Mr. Farrell, be instructed to mvoe same in-as-much as he had not secured a proper building permit for this building. Upon motion of Messrs. Burton and Vane, the City Manager was instructed to notify Mr. Farrell that this bungalow must be moved at once from the lot on account of not securing the proper permit.
