REGULAR MEETING

                                                                                                                        May 11th, 1936

            The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Dover was held on the 11th day of May, 1936. The meeting was called to order by Mayor J. Wallace Woodford and on roll call the following members answered present: Messrs. LeFevre, Downes, Keith, Millman, Burton, Hinkle and Vane.

MINUTES

            Upon motion of Messrs. Burton and LeFevre, the reading of the minutes of the last regular meeting was dispensed with.

CITY MANAGER’S REPORT

            The City Manager’s report for the month of April was read by the Clerk and accepted upon moiton of Messrs. LeFevre and Burton.

            Upon motion of Messrs. Downes and LeFevre, the City Manager was authoized to purchas a digging machine for the City at a ost of approximately $6100 on the most advantageous terms.

            Upon motion of Messrs. LeFevre and Downes, the City Manager was instructed to get a survey on all of the sewer lines needed and have these estimates and surveys ready to submit to the WPA for their approval with an application for grant for installing same.

            Upon motion of Messrs. Burton and Downes, the City Manager was instructed to notify the owner of the frame building on South Kirkwood Street belonging to that same would have to be removed or repaired within days.

ALDERMAN’S REPORT

            The Alderman’s report for the month of April was read by the Clerk and accepted upon motion of Messrs. Burton and Millman. Cash amounting to $75 was turned over to the City Manager with a report of 11 arrests.

POLICE REPORT

            The report of the Chief of Police was read by the Clerk and approved upon motion of Messrs. Burton and Downes.

FINANCIAL REPORT

            The financial report of the month of April was read by the Clerk and accepted and approved upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Burton.

REDUCTION IN WATER RENT

            Upon motion of Messrs. Downes and LeFevre, Council instructed the City Manager to reduce the water rent of C. W. Dunham on South New Street (who is disabled) from $3.75 to $1.25 quarterly.

PETITION

            A petition was presented to Council signed by the property owners on New Street between mary and Clara Streets asking that the City lay a hard surface street from curb to curb in that block. This petition was signed by 8 property owners. The City manager was instructed to make a survey of this street and report at the next regular meeting, giving an estimate of the cost.

PRINTING OF NEW ORDINANCES

            Upon motion of Messrs. Downes and Burton, the committee which is revamping and preparing the ordinances of the City of Dover was authorized to get a price on the printing of 50 to 100 copies with paper bound covers. They were asked to submit this price as soon as possible.
