SPECIAL MEETING
March 12, 1928
The meeting was called to order by President Woodford with the following members present: Messrs. Downes, Burton, Frear, Keith, Clements & Clark.
POLICE MEETING
President Woodford appointed Chairman of Police Committee to act as chairman of the Police Committee to act as chairman of the police meeting. Chairman Keith asked police “Why they did not work together” and all members of the force was dismissed from the meeting and the Council elected the following members for the coming year.
Upon motion of Messrs. Keith & Clements Mr. J. Allen Selvy was elected as Chief of Police for the coming year effective May 1st 1928 with a salary of $30.00 per week. It was also understood that the chief of police should render monthly reports to council and that he should sit with Council at all regular meetings.
STREET SUPERINTENDENT
Upon motion of Messrs. Keith & Burton Mr. Wilson Cummins was appointed Supt. of streets for the year of 1928.
ASST. STREET SUPT.
Upon motion of Messrs. Keith & Downes Mr. Norris Garrison was appointed assistant to Mr. Cummins, as Assistant Street Supt.
NIGHT OFFICER
Upon motion of Messrs. Downes & Burton Mr. W. H. Peterson was appointed night officer until further notice.
FINANCE COMMITTEE
Upon motion of Messrs. Frear & Clements Clerk was instructed to draw order on treasurer for the balance due Mr. E. L. Williams Engr. on supervising the laying of new sewer system. To the amount of $416.01 which is the balance due in full.
CONDEMNATION PAPERS ON BELLE D. MORRIS PROPERTY
The solicitor advised Clerk to file and place in the minutes the condemnation papers on the Belle D. Morris property for laying sewer. The following is a copy of these proceedings as turned over to us by Solicitor Satterfield.
