Special Meeting
Dover, Delaware, June 7th, 1921.
A special Meeting of Town Council was held at 7:30 P. M. with the following members present: Messrs. Hopkins, Caulk, Downes, Bice, Clark, Burton and the President, Mr. Magee.
Object of The Meeting: The object of the meeting was to consider the matter of the erection of porch by Mr. Elwood Teat over the street at his property on Bradford Street.
Council Votes To Allow the Continuation of the Construction of Porch. On motion of Messrs Bice and Clark Council voted to allow Mr. Elwood Teat to continue the construction of the porch at his property on Bradford Street.
The above action was taken after considerable discussion in which the feeling of Council was that the matter of encroachment over street by the erection of porches, etc shall be discountenanced in future cases.
Gasoline Tanks: Under Streets, Cellars, etc: Council was advised that Stewart Brothers desired to install a larger gasoline tank in front of and below their place of business on Loockerman Street. The matter of such tanks in general was discussed by Council and it was the sentiment that more precautionary measures should be taken in the future relative to the installation of such containers. With this in view, Messrs. Hopkins and Burton moved that Council request the Solicitor to draw up an ordinance regulating the installation of gasoline tanks with the understanding that no underground tanks were to be installed until after the adoption of the new ordinance. Council so voted.
Re: Use of Electric Current by Opera House Management, Etc: Rate. Mr. Bice reported that the management of the Temple Theater and Opera House had switched in all the lights as well as the moving picture machines on motors in order to secure the motor rate which had been allowed them for the picture machines only. Council instructed Mr. Bice that the management of the above mentioned places was to receive the motor rate only for motors and that all other current used would be paid for at the usual rate for current.
New Land For Water Plant:- Mr. Hopkins brought up for Council’s consideration the matter of the purchase of additional land for the Water Plant, stating that a small piece was available, probably a half acre, at a reasonable price. Council argued the matter and then voting on motion of Messrs. Downes, seconded by Mr. Burton, referred the matter to the Water & Light Committee with power to act.
Request for New Water Connection: Mr. Bice reported that he had received a request to cut in a water line in the vacinity of the old Stevenson property. Council considered the rquest and afterwards directed the Water & Light Committee to get an estimate of the cost of same and the amount of revenue which it might be expected to yield.
Adjournment: On motion of Messrs. Hopkins and Downes Council voted to adjourn.
Signed: Harold W. Horsey
Clerk.
