REGULAR MEETING
December 13, 1954
The regular meeting of City Council was held Monday, December 13, 1954, at 7:30 P.M. with Mayor Haman presiding. Councilmen present were Messrs. Biddle, Helm, Holpp, Mundy, Davis, Petty, Smith and Tischer.
MINUTES
Minutes of the last regular meeting were accepted as read.
REPORTS
Report of the City Manager was accepted as read.
Report of the Chief of Police was accepted as read.
Report of the City Alderman was accepted as read. A check in the amount of $1325.75 was remitted to the City.
Report of the Fire Recorder for November was accepted as read.
Budget report to November 30, 1954 was accepted as read.
Report of ambulance operations for November was accepted as read.
FIRE COMPANY ELECTIONS
By unanimous vote, Council elected the following officers of the Robbins Hose Company:
Chief Engineer George Hill Jr.
First Assistant Paul Kertiles
Second Assistant Jester Shubrooks
PARKING ON THE GREEN
Council directed that the reserved parking space granted Mrs. T.C. Frame on The Green be discontinued as such and that markers denoting no parking at the Ridgely and Satterfield homes on The Green be removed thus allowing public use of such parking spaces. Councilmen Biddle, Helm and Smith voted No.
SINCLAIR GASOLINE STATION
Council directed that the Sinclair Refining Company be authorized to install driveways to its proposed station at Loockerman and Queen Sts. In accordance with the recommendations of the City Manager and the Hearing Committee. The driveways would be installed on Loockerman Street approximately as follows: beginning at a point ten feet west of the fire plug, a 30' driveway, then a 4' island on which a street light would be located, then a 36' driveway to their western property line.
CITY MANAGER
City Manager Ward reported on the results of letters addressed to firms located within the City requesting them to obtain a City business license.
Mr. Ward reported that letters are being sent to delinquent taxpayers, poll and real estate, requesting payment prior to entering suit.
Mr. Ward also reported on the collection of delinquent rents for City housing.
STREETS
Mr. Ward reported on his progress in obtaining street right-of-way for the extension and/or widening of Clara, West and Lincoln Streets, and Monroe Terrace.
DIVISION STREET
By unanimous vote, Council requested the State Highway Department to proceed with the construction of Division Street according to plans outlined by the Chief Engineer of the highway Department in his urban report.
CITY ASSESSOR AND BUILDING INSPECTOR
By unanimous vote, Thomas E. Baker was elected City Assessor and Building Inspector for the year 1955.
LEGISLATIVE AND FINANCE COMMITTEE
Councilmen Tischer discussed the legislative and financial needs of the City and Council was asked for comment on such requirements. The Committee will meet Monday, December 20, 1954.
