REGULAR MEETING
September 10, 1951
The regular meeting of City Council was held Monday, September 10, 1951, at 7:30 P.M. with Mayor Storey presiding. Councilmen present were Messrs Book, Carroll, Culver, Holpp, Petty, Smith and Wilson.
MINUTES
Minutes of the last regular meeting were accepted as read, except that the word “rehabilitation of electric distribution lines” were changed to read “Rehabilitation and extension of electric distribution lines.”
REPORTS
Report of the City Manager for August 1951 was accepted as read.
Report of the Chief of Police for August 1951 was accepted as read.
Report of the City Alderman and Magistrate Dempsey for August 1951 were accepted as read. Checks in the amount of $1040.30 and $55.00 were remitted to the City.
PETITION AGAINST BUS LINE
A petition from taxi cab operators in the City of Dover protested against the operation of bus service within the City. Council ordered the petition acknowledged and filed.
LATEX SEWER RENTAL
International Latex Corporation offered to pay the City of Dover an annual sewer rental of $1500 rather than $3750 charged by order of Council. Council directed that a reply from the City insist on payment of the $3750 charge.
JAMES COLLINS PENSION
Council directed that James Collins, former City employee, be notified he does not qualify for a pension under the present City ordinance.
REPORT OF TREE COMMITTEE
Report of the tree committee recommending trimming and removal of certain trees was accepted by Council.
The City Manager was authorized to provide without charge labor ro plant trees for property owners who are willing to pay the cost of the tree. The City Manager was further authorized to locate and determine the cost of sugar maple trees for replanting purposes.
HIGH SCHOOL STORM SEWER
The City Manager reported that he was scheduled to confer with Dr. Halderman at 4 P.M. September 13, 1951 on the problem of draining surface water from the school grounds. Councilmen Culver and Petty were appointed to attend the conference with Mr. Agner.
LOAN TO YMCA
The City Solicitor was directed to investigate the loan of $6000 from the Farmers Bank secured by the City and the YMCA.
APARTMENT PROJECT
Mr. Sheridan of Smyrna Homes Corp. appeared before Council to explain a proposed project for the erection of multiple housing units on lands of William Bush, south of Dover Street and west of Governors Avenue. Council deferred action until completed plans are presented for consideration.
COMMITTEES ON AMBULANCE
Councilmen Culver and Wilson and Mr. Hughes were appointed as a committee to contact the Kant County Levy Court with a proposal that that body share with the City of Dover the expense of operating the City-owned ambulance and share any income derived from the operation.
