SPECIAL MEETING
July 31, 1950
A special meeting of City Council was held on Monday, July 31, 1950 at 8:00 P.M. with Mayor Storey presiding. Members present were Councilmen Behen, Carroll, Culver, Lofland, Mikell, Petty, Smith and Wilson.
SALARIES
City Council authorized the following salary increases:
Walker Kemp $50.00 to $60.00 per week
James E. Turner 90.00 to 95.00 “ ”
Harry Hancock 60.00 to 70.00 “ ”
Charles Legates 60.00 to 65.00 “ ”
Earl Pleasanton 65.00 to 70.00 “ ”
Edward F. Stumm 65.00 to 75.00 “ ”
Wilton Virdin 53.00 to 55.00 “ ”
Paul F. Keith 45.00 to 50.00 “ ”
Thomas E. Baker 55.00 to 65.00 “ ”
Councilmen Lofland, Mikell, Smith and Culver were appointed a committee to consider any other salary increases.
INCINERATOR
Upon recommendation of a committee appointed to witness a demonstration, Council approved use within the City limits of an incinerator distributed by Mr. Kerin. The City Solicitor was directed to prepare an ordinance limiting use of the outdoor incinerator to a distance at least ten feet from a building.
METER DEPARTMENT
Council directed that the Meter Department of the City of Dover be placed under the supervision of Mr. Edward F. Stumm.
DUMP
Council directed the City Manager to request Mr. Leslie Gooden to negotiate the purchase of a site for a City dump from Mr. and Mrs. Ciccone on the South Little Creek Road at a price not to exceed $3000.
HAYES WILSON BUILDING REQUEST
Council discussed the request of Mr. Hayes Wilson for a permit to erect a structure on Mr. Wilson’s property adjoining the west side of City Hall. The building proposed is intended for occupancy by a supermarket and will provide parking facilities. Council felt that it should not act on the request until a hearing had been given to representatives of interested civic organizations.
PURCHASE OF GASOLINE AND OIL
Council directed the City Manager to secure bids on a yearly basis for the procurement of gasoline and oil for use by the City of Dover.
