SPECIAL MEETING

April 18, 1950

A special meeting of City Council was held on Tuesday, April 18, 1950 at 7:30 P.M. with Mayor Storey presiding. Members present were Messrs. Behen, Carroll, Culver, Lofland, Mikell, Petty, Smith and Wilson.

FIRE HOSE

Council approved the purchase of 500 feet of 2½” fire hose for Robbins Hose Company.

WATER MAIN ON GOVERNORS AVENUE

Council approved the extension of an eight inch water main from the present twelve inch main at Governors Avenue and Minor Street northward on Governors Avenue a distance far enough to serve the new American Stores building.

WATER FOR HARLEY TAYLOR’S DEVELOPMENT

Council approved the installation of an eight inch water line from the present water storage tank on Division Street to a point at the beginning of Harley Taylor’s development on Walker Road west of the Pennsylvania Railroad, at a cost of about $35,000.00; provided that the owner shall place on deposit with the City of Dover the sum of $25,000.00 before construction of the water main is started. The overall cost of the job will ultimately be paid one-third by the City of Dover and two-thirds by the development.

SEWER FOR HARLEY TAYLOR’S DEVELOPMENT

Council rejected the request of Harley Taylor to extend a sewer line to the development on Walker Road west of the Pennsylvania Railroad because of the present overloaded condition of the City sewage disposal plant and because of the prohibitive cost of the suggested project.

WATER MAIN EXTENSION FOR FRANK L. RENTZ

Council approved the extension of about 200 feet of 1½ inch water main from the end of our present main on Wyoming Avenue west of Governors Avenue to a house being built by Frank L. Rentz on Wyoming Avenue west of Governors Avenue.

GEORGE D. FISHER WATER BILL

Council directed the City Manager to make a personal survey of the water outlets at the double house at 6 S. Governors Avenue owned by George D. Fisher. If this customer has been overcharged for water his account is to be corrected accordingly. The customer is to receive a credit of 50% of the overcharge, if any, during the period from January 1, 1946 to January 1, 1950. The $1.00 penalty is to be removed from the customer’s bill for the last quarter of 1949.

WATER SUPPLY SURVEY

The City Manager, Fire Chief, and Mr. Baker were appointed a committee to study and lay out a long range plan for the water supply requirements of the City.

The City Manager, Fire Chief, and Mr. Baker were appointed a committee to study and lay out a long range plan for the water supply requirements of the City.

STREET LIGHTS

Various street light salesmen will be asked to appear before Council on Monday night, April 24, 1950 at 7:30 P.M., if possible, to explain their various types of street lighting equipment.

Council adjourned at 9:10 P.M.
