SPECIAL MEETING

                                                                                                                        July 19, 1948

A special meeting of City Council was convened at 7:30 P.M., July 18, 1948, with Mayor Willis presiding. Members present were Mrs. Frear and Messrs. Carroll, Culver, Hartnett, Wilson and Wright.

PERMIT FOR TEMPORARY HOUSING AT WESLEY JUNIOR COLLEGE

Council discussed the request of Wesley Junior College and the U.S. Government for a permit to retain in their present location beyond January 1, 1950 buildings erected for temporary dormitories at Wesley Junior College. Council directed that nearby property owners and officials of the College be notified that opinions will be heard and the matter decided at its next regular meeting.

Fire Marshal

Upon motion of Mr. Wright, seconded by Mr. Carroll, Council appointed Benjamin F. Simmons III, Chief Engineer, Robbins Hose Company, to be City Fire Marshall for the balance of the term of office expiring January 1949. Mr. Simmons’ appointment filled the vacancy overlooked by Council in January 1948.

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND AN ORDINANCE REGULATING AND LIMITING THE USE OF CERTAIN STREETS IN THE CITY OF DOVER, passed March 8, 1948.

BE IT ORDAINED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE ITY OF DOVER IN COUNCIL MET:

Paragraph 1 of an ordinance regulating and limiting the use of certain streets in the City of Dover, passed March 8, 1948, shall be amended to delete the following sentence: “No left turns from North Street to State Street shall be made at the intersection of North State Streets.” The ordinance will then read:

Vehicle traffic upon North Street between Governors Avenue and Federal Street shall be only in one direction. Such traffic shall move east upon North Street.

It shall be unlawful to park vehicles on State Street between Loockerman Street and The Green, except on the east side of said street.

Any person or persons convicted of the violation of any of the provisions hereof shall be subject to the same penalties as provided under Paragraph 5, Section 7, Chapter IX of the Ordinances of the City of Dover relating to Streets and Alleys.
