SPECIAL MEETING

                                                                                                                        October 23, 1946

A special meeting of City Council was held in City Hall on October 23, at 7:30 P.M. with Mayor Woodford presiding. The following members were present: Messrs. Downes, Keith, Burton, Hartnett, Carson, Mikell and Hinkle.

Melvin Property

The question of granting a permit to James Melvin to erect a home in Lakewood Place was again brought up. Mr. Melvin stated that, since there was so much objection from the citizens of the community in which he wished to build, he would withdraw his request for a permit.

Bruner Lot

Upon motion of Mr. Keith, seconded by Mr. Vane, the proposal of Mr. Burner to purchase his lot on North Bradford Street was rejected.

F.P.H.A.

Mr. Falls of the F.P.H.A. telephoned to find out if the plan proposed had been accepted by Council. Without objection, Council voted to accept the plan for the F.P.H.A. housing project as originally outlined.

Baseball Park Rate

Upon motion of Mr. Keith, seconded by Mr. Downes, the rate was set as $5.00 for demand, with the regular energy rate for the current used by the Dover Phillies.

Delaware Power and Light Hook-up

The City Manager stated that the power situation is beginning to get critical. Our plant is rapidly becoming too small. At the present time we have a 2500-1250 and 750 turbine, but with the load increase which can be expected by 1950, steps should be taken immediately to remedy the situation. Geographically the present plant is not located in the proper place. It cost in the year 1945 abut $6000.00 to haul coal. The cooling system at the present plant is entirely too small; and if our 2500 KW Turbine breaks down, we will not have enough stand-by to carry our present load. After some discussion Council instructed the City Manager to write to Delaware Power and Light to find out what it would cost to furnish partial stand-by service.

Council adjourned at 10:00 P.M.
