REGULAR MEETING

                                                                                                                        August 14, 1946

The regular meeting of City Council was held on Monday night, August 14, at 7:30 P.M. with Mayor Woodford presiding. The following members were present: Messrs. Downes, Vane, Burton, Mikell, Carson, Hinkle and Keith.

Minutes

Without objection the reading of the minutes of the last regular and special meetings was dispensed with.

City Manager’s Report

Upon motion of Mr. Vane seconded by Mr. Hinkle the City Manager’s report was accepted as read.

Chief of Police Report

The report of the Chief of Police was read and without objection was approved as read.

Alderman’s Report

Upon motion of Mr. Keith seconded by Mr. Vane the Alderman’s report was accepted. A check in the amount of $683.90 accompanied the report.

Jesse Harmon Lot

Considerable objection has been raised about the condition of the lot owned by the Harmon Oil Company on Division Street. After some discussion the City Manager was instructed to notify Mr. Harmon that the property be cleaned up, that dykes be built around the oil tanks, and that it be fenced with cyclone fence, the same to be done within thirty days.

Gross Brothers Junk Yard

Upon motion of Mr. Hinkle seconded by Mr. Burton the building now being used to store paper, etc., owned by Louis Gross be condemned in accordance with a report of Mr. Baker and that the City Manager be instructed to notify Mr. Gross to have it torn down within thirty days.

NAP & Spence Building

Upon motion of Mr. Burton seconded by Mr. Downes the building on Loockerman Street owned by nap & Spence was condemned in accordance with a report of Mr. Baker and the City Manager was instructed to notify Nap & Spence to have it torn down within thirty days.

Marshall Heirs Building

Upon motion of Mr. Burton seconded by Mr. Downes the building at Bank Lane and New Street owned by the Marshall heirs was condemned in accordance with a report of Mr. Baker and the City manager was instructed to notify the Marshall heirs to have it torn down within thirty days.

Lotus Street Sewer

Upon motion of Mr. Carson seconded by Mr. Burton the plan of the City Manager to run sewer to St. Jones river at a cost of $6000.00 was approved.

Sackarackin Avenue Sewer

Upon motion of Mr. Burton seconded by Mr. Downes the plan of the City manager to run a 10” sewer on Sackarackin Avenue at a cost of $2000.00 was approved.

Silver Lake

Upon motion of Mr. Downes seconded by Mr. Keith the request of the City manager to take up floats, spring boards, etc., and store for the winter was approved.

Request for Electric Line

The request by Mr. Hunn for the city to continue their electric line on the Lebanon road for a distance of about ¼ mile to furnish electricity for his farm was refused.

Junior Chamber of Commerce

The request of the Junior Chamber of Commerce for the sue of Council room for their meetings was approved without objection.

Shakespeare and Hall Lot

George Ehinger appeared before Council requesting that the lot owned by Frank Shakespeare and Dr. Hall adjoining the Murphy School be cleaned up by the City. Upon motion of Mr. Downes seconded by Mr. Carson the request was refused since it would take about six weeks to do it.

Fire School

Without objection the City Manager was authorized to pay the expenses of Mr. Baker to attend fire school at the University of Maryland up to $75.00.

Council adjourned at 9:20 P.M.
