SPECIAL MEETING

                                                                                                                        July 15, 1946

A special meeting of City Council was held on Monday, July 15, at 7:30 P.M. with Mayor Woodford presiding. The following members were present: Messrs. Vane, Hinkle, Carson, Mikell and Keith.

Purpose of meeting

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss final arrangements for the government housing program. A site owned by Mr. Noble Warren on Kings Highway was selected and the City Manager was instructed to proceed with the sewer at a cost of approximately $1500 and water lines at a cost of approximately $900, provided the State will assume the responsibility of building a road.

Lotus Street Sewer

City Manager Wilcox reported that Council had given him permission to run sewer lines on Lotus Street, at a subsequent meeting, but in view of the fact that only one bid had been received which was approximately $5,000 more than the estimate which he gave Council, he thought it best not to proceed until he again had reported to Council. After some discussion, the City Manager was instructed to make a further study with the idea of running straight out Lotus Street instead of the route which was originally planned.

Request for “no parking” space

Mrs. Paul Short, the proprietress of a health clinic on New Street, requested Council to put up “No Parking” signs in front of her place of business. This request was unanimously rejected.

Council adjourned at 8:40 P.M.
