A special meeting of City Council was held on Wednesday evening, January 2, at 7:30 P.M. with Mayor Woodford presiding. Members present were Messrs. LeFevre, Vane, Burton, Hinkle, Keith and Carson.
PURPOSE OF MEETING
A letter presented by James B. Bice, representing the Dover Baseball Club, outlining the conditions under which the said Baseball Club would surrender title to their interests, was read. After some discussion, upon motion of Mr. LeFevre, seconded by Mr. Keith, the proposals outlined in the letter were accepted by the City.
The lease between the City of Dover and the Philadelphia National League Baseball Club was read in part. Upon motion of Mr. LeFevre, seconded by Mr. Burton, the proper City officials were instructed to execute the lease after the changes suggested by Council were made with respect to lights and to use by the Dover High School and any institution or organization for charitable purposes, the said lease to be returned to the City Manager after the changes have been made.
Without objection, the City Manager was instructed to place a small amount of insurance on the buildings and fence on the baseball park.
HOTEL CONCESSION
Gregson and Whiteside, together with their attorney, Judge Keith, appeared before Council with plans and specifications to erect a hotel on the property situated just east of the City Hall. They plan to start a corporation to be known as the Dover Hotel Corporation and to erect a 76-room building. After a lengthy discussion, the City Solicitor and Judge Keith were instructed to draw up an option and submit it to Council at their regular meeting on January 14.
Council adjourned at 9:10 P.M.
