SPECIAL MEETING

August 30, 1945

A special meeting of City Council was held August 30, 1945 at 4:30 P.M. Mayor Woodford presided and the members present were Messrs. Downes, Carson, Vane and Hartnett and City Manager Wilcox.

Resolution

Upon motion of Mr. Downes, seconded by Mr. Carson, William F. Schmidt, City Clerk was authorized to sign checks against the payroll account of the City of Dover, which motion was passed.

Employment of City Engineer

Mr. Wilcox stated that Major Charles C. Brown had been to see him for an interview with respect to the position of City Engineer and that he had been very favorably impressed by him. Major Brown was very much interested in the position provided a release from the U. S. Army could be obtained. After discussing the various duties connected with the position with Mr. Wilcox, Major Brown decided that he would be glad to accept at a salary of $4000.00 per year, but if this figure was too high would consider a salary of $3600.00. After some discussion, upon motion of Mr. Downes, seconded by Mr. Hartnett, it was decided to offer the position of City Engineer to Major Brown at a salary of $3600.00 per year, which motion was passed.

Mr. Wilcox was instructed to write the Adjutant General asking for Major Brown’s release.

Adjournment

Meeting was adjourned at 5:00 P.M.
