SPECIAL MEETING

July 17, 1945

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P.M. Messrs. Woodford, Keith, Burton, Vane, Hinkle and Carson were present.

SELECTION OF CITY CLERK

The selection of the new City Clerk was first discussed and the name of Mr. William Schmidt, now employed by the State Board of Education was proposed. After it was discussed, Council agreed to have the City Manager offer the position of City Clerk to Mr. Schmidt at a salary of $55.00 per week with an increase to $60.00 per week after six months satisfactory service.

BOARD OF HEALTH

It was decided that Mayor Woodford should request Dr. Joseph McDaniel to call a meeting of the Board of Health for the appointment of a new executive secretary to fill the place of Mr. J. O. Willis.

VACATIONS

Several points in connection with the vacation scheme adopted at the last regular meeting of Council were clarified. It was decided that no employee was due a vacation until after he had been in the employ of the City for at least six months. Starting after the six months period, the employee shall accrue vacation time at the rate of one day per month. In other words, after seven months employment the employee shall be due one day’s vacation. After twelve months he shall be due six days vacation. Equivalent salary may be given to the employee at his option in lieu of time off. No vacation money or vacation time off shall be given in advance of the date when it is due. Vacation time or vacation money may be taken either in units of one day or may be accrued until the total amount for that year has been earned.

BONUS FOR MR. WILLIS AND MR. JOSEPH

Mr. Wilcox suggested that in view of the length of time Mr. Willis had been in the service of the City, some bonus should be given to him over and above his salary which was paid only up to the date when he was released from the employ of the City. To a lesser extent, the same bonus scheme is applicable to Mr. Joseph. After consideration, Council decided that Mr. Willis should be given two weeks vacation pay and two weeks salary as a bonus. Mr. Joseph should be given two weeks vacation pay and one weeks salary as a bonus. This unanimously adopted by Council.

The meeting adjourned at 9 P.M.
