REGULAR MEETING
January 10, 1944
The Regular Meeting of The City Council of the City of Dover was held on the 10th day of January, 1944. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Woodford at 7:30 P. M., and on roll call, the following members answered “Present”: Messrs. LeFevre, Keith, Hartnett, Burton, Hinkle, and Vane.
MINUTES
Upon motion of Messrs. Burton and Hinkle, the reading of the minutes of the last regular meeting was dispensed with.
CITY MANAGER’S REPORT
The City Manager’s Report for the month of December was read by the Clerk and accepted upon motion of Messrs. LeFevre and Burton.
Upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Hinkle the City Manager was authorized to have the necessary repairs made to the incinerator.
ALDERMAN’S REPORT
The Alderman’s report for the month of December was read by the Clerk and accepted upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Burton.
A check amounting to $273.60 was turned over to the City Manager with the report of nineteen (19) arrests.
POLICE REPORT
The monthly and annual report of the Chief of police was read by the Clerk and approved upon motion of Messrs. LeFevre and Keith.
COMMITTEE
Mr. A. B. Magee, Jr. appeared before Council representing his client, Mr. Ralph Williams, and asked that Council rescind the City ordinance which prohibits the building of slaughter houses within the limits of the City of Dover. Mr. Williams stated that he would like to remodel the brick building located at the end of Mary St. which was occupied as a stocking factory and use this building for the purpose of slaughtering animals for food purposes. He also stated that all requirements of the State Board of Health would be adhered to.
After some discussion, upon motion of Messrs. LeFevre and Vane, the Council voted to take the application under advisement and that the Mayor appoint a suitable Committee including the City Solicitor to prepare an amendment to the city ordinance and to report back to the City Council at their next meeting.
The following committee was appointed by Mayor Woodford: The City Manager, Gilbert L. Wilcox; The City Solicitor, Melvin Hopkins; Secretary of the City Board of Health, Joseph O. Willis.
Mr. Henry Hazel appeared before Council objecting to any permits to be issued for people to build small, cheap homes on Washington St. Mr. Hazel was advised by Council that any applications for residence on Washington St. would be carefully checked on before a permit was issued.
APPROPRIATION TO DOVER SCHOOL
Upon motion of Messrs. LeFevre and Burton, the City Council appropriated $500.00 to be used by the Dover Public School to reimburse them for expenses such as Light, heat, Janitor service, etc. for municipal recreation which is being held from time to time in the public school buildings.
