REGULAR MEETING
May 11, 1942
The Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Dover washeld on the 11th day of May, 1942. The Meeting was called to order at 7:30 P. M. by Vice-Mayor LeFevre, and on roll call the following members answered “PRESENT”: Messrs. Downes, Keith, Millman, Hartnett, Burton, Hinkle and Vane.
MINUTES
Upon motion of Messrs. Millman and Keith, the reading of the Minutes of the last Regular and Special Meetings was dispensed with.
CITY MANAGER’S REPORT
The City Manager’s report for the month of April was read by the Clerk and accepted upon motion of Messrs. Downes and Vane.
Upon motion of Messrs. Millman and Keith, Council instructed the City Clerk to advise Mr. Wilbert Raughley by letter that the City is not interested in the purchase of the property north of Silver Lake.
FINANCIAL REPORT
The financial report for the month of April was read by the Clerk and accepted upon motion of Messrs. Hinkle and Downes.
ALDERMAN’S REPORT
The Alderman’s report for the month of April was read by the Clerk and accepted upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Hinkle. A check amounting to $132.00 was turned over to the City Manager with the report of 17 arrests.
POLICE REPORT
The report of the Chief of Police was read by the Clerk and approved upon motion of Messrs. Millman and Hinkle.
REFUND
Upon motion of Messrs. Vane and Downes, the City clerk was instructed to draw an order on the treasurer in the sum of $100.00 and costs which was paid to the City in the case of the State versus William S. Briggs for driving an automobile while under the influence of liquor on the streets of the City of Dover. This refund was authorized by an order of the Superior Court of the State of Delaware in and for Kent County, said Court having reversed the decision against William S. Briggs.
LETTERS
Upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Hinkle, the City Clerk was instructed to write a letter to Dr. C. B. Scull expressing their appreciation for his services in organizing the Soldiers’ Recreation Center and wishing him well in his army career.
Upon motion of Messrs. LeFevre and Downes, the City Clerk was instructed to write a letter to Mr. John C. Hopkins, ex-Mayor of the City, expressing their sorrow in his illness and hoping for his early improvement in health.
ADJOURNMENT
Council adjourned at 8:35 P. M.
