SPECIAL MEETING
May 26th, 1941
A Special Meeting of the City Council of the City of Dover was held on the 26th day of May, 1941. The meeting was called to order at 3 P. M. with Mayor Woodford presiding and on roll call the following members answered “Present”: Messrs. Downes, Keith, Vane, Hinkle, Millman, LeFevre and Hartnett.
The City Manager explained to Council that Mr. Bailey, who is representing the Dover Hotel Corporation, had presented plans for a new 100-room hotel to be built in Dover and that said Corporation desired an option and price on the lot east of the City Hall on which to locate this building.
After some discussion, the following resolution was adopted:
Resolved that the Mayor of the City of Dover be authorized to have prepared and execute an option on the land east of the City Hall, giving to the persons interested in the hotel project the right and option to purchase lands owned by the City of Dover lying on the north side of the Dover Plaza and on the east side of the driveway, lying east of the City Hall, leading from the City plaza northward to other lands of the City of Dover, said tract having a front on said Dover Plaza of 250 feet, a westerly line of 170 feet, a northerly line of 180 feet, and an easterly line perpendicular to the northerly property line of the City plaza of 82 feet and a line running from the last mentioned line to the northerly boundary line of the whole tract, a distance of about 112 feet. Be the contents whatsoever they may and having no improvements thereon for the sum of Twenty-Five Hundred Dollars ($2,500.00), subject to the following conditions: namely,
That the term of said option shall be for three (3) months from this date, but that before said option shall be exercised and the City of Doer required to execute and deliver a deed for said property, the purchaser or purchasers thereof shall submit satisfactory evidence to the Council of the City of Dover of the financial ability of such person or person, firm, association or corporation to erect a hotel building according to the plans and specifications to be submitted to and approved by the Council of the City of Dover.
LOCAL HOUSING AUTHORITY
Upon motion of Messrs. LeFevre and Downes, Mayor Woodford was authorized by Council to appoint a Local Housing Authority.
LOCAL DEFENSE COUNCIL
Upon motion of Messrs. LeFevre and Keith, the City Council authorized the Mayor to communicate with the Government in reference to a Local Defense Council.
LIBRARY APPROPRIATIONS
Upon motion of Messrs. Keith and Downes, the City Clerk was instructed to draw an order on the treasury for $250.00, this amount being the annual appropriation to the Dover Library.
