Job Description:

Do you like working outdoors?  The City of Dover is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Arborist in the Parks and Recreation Department.  The primary duties of this position are to maintain City property to provide adequate clearance of rights-of-way by tree trimming, pruning as well as tree removal, knowledge of proper cutting techniques and the ability to diagnose the health and safety of a tree.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform pruning and trimming vegetation
  • Removal and hauling of tree stumps, planting of trees, complete work orders and interacting with customers to provide clear direction
  • Provide snow removal support, assist with general grounds clean-up and maintenance such as debris clean up, repairs necessary yard repair, Christmas tree pickup and holiday decorating
  • Mow grass, chip brush, prune and trim trees, cut back vegetation, mulch, pull weeds, rake and blow leaves
  • Responsible for ensuring equipment is functioning properly and perform maintenance and minor repairs as needed
  • Complete job-related logs, forms and assist in providing information to the public
  • Exposed to extreme heat, cold as well as all types of inclement weather
  • Requires heavy work involving exerting 20-50 pounds of force on a regular basis, and 50-100 pounds of force on an occasional basis

Required Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or GED
  • One year of related experience
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), or the ability to obtain a CDL permit within two (2) months and CDL license within six (6) months is required
  • Department of Transportation (DOT) pre-employment physical and drug and alcohol test

A criminal background investigation and driver’s license review will be required. Candidates may be given a job-related test during the interview.
