Job Description:

We are looking for motivated individuals to join our Public Works Department. The Motor Equipment Operator II position in the Stormwater Division is to operate motor equipment and to complete skilled labor in support of City maintenance operations. This position is responsible for assigned tasks. This position also works under general supervision according to some procedures; decides how and when to complete tasks.

Job Responsibilities

  • Operates motor equipment to transport materials, tools, equipment, or personnel to job sites, load or haul dirt, or pick up debris from job sites.
  • Operates specialized motor equipment to support City operations such as, street paving, mechanized street sweeping, snow removal, leaf collection, street salting/sanding/brine application, stormwater utility cleaning, repair, and replacement, or other specialized operations.
  • Operates hand and power tools, and equipment to support maintenance operations such as weed cutting, leaf removal, debris removal, digging or filling, repairing, and cleaning catch basins, or other maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Inspects motor equipment and performs minor operator maintenance, reports malfunctions to Fleet maintenance and direct line supervisor.
  • Responds to and resolves customer complaints for the assigned area as directed.
  • Assists with traffic control and provides information to the public if required.
  • Must be available when the City of Dover activates 12-hour shifts for weather-related events.

Required Qualifications

  • Requires a high school diploma, GED or Specialized vocational training is accepted.
  • Requires a valid Delaware Commercial Driver’s License, a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate, and a Tanker Endorsement.
  • Requires two years of Motor Equipment Operator-related experience.
